THE BEGINNING

ABOUT BARBARA

BARBARAboy began with Barbara, a music artist who came out late in life and chose, against all odds, to follow his deepest want. Along the way, he met other artists, each pulled by their own version of want, each crafting new ways of being.

Clothing became declaration. Style became language. What we put on is how we shape our story. From a life of shoulds to a life of wants, BARBARAboy was born as a symbol for anyone moving in the direction of their truest want.

To wear BARBARAboy is to name your want, to live it out loud—and to help others do the same. Every piece directly supports emerging artists on the same journey.

MUSIC

The song Sky is Empty is a collaboration between Barbara and Savage Nightingale - over the years, this song has had many shapes and forms. This acoustic version was born in Barbara’s kitchen late at night, but it lived in his hard drive until the day he played it for the emerging Director Des. On her first listen, she was struck by a vision for the music video.  The video features Dem as the dancer and the astonishing work of a first-time choreographer, Cassie. Together with Savage Nightingale, this piece is an example of the creative work you are supporting. The piece is a product of the crystal clear clarity and devotion to following the call of want.

COMEDY

BARBARAboy is one piece of A Project Named Barbara—a growing network of artists building across sound, style, story, and stage. Together, they show what’s possible when we want together.

It’s not just music you’re supporting. BARBARAboy comedy sketches are crafted by emerging voices in film: actors, writers, directors. Writer-producer Andrew Morrison brought the Barbara sketch world to life. He’s following his own call toward comedy, and each sketch is a love letter to his creative path.

YOUTUBE SERIES

Barbara is reinventing his life one big idea at a time.  With help from his friends, Barbara Funks is a duct-taped, joy-splashed midlife crisis in motion.
